In this atypical, totally open-plan space, with its unconventional angles, our purpose was, on the one hand, to visually and symbolically redefine uses without betraying the original setting. And on the other hand, to create an aesthetic unity - composed of soft, muted tones and noble materials - consistent with the original architectural project.

The old side access to the kitchen was closed off to create an actual entry, which they didn’t have before. A luminous, soft-touch matt black was used on the entry closet and ceiling of the entrance. This, combined with some brushed brass touches, sets the tone upon entering the apartment, for the play of contrasts in the rest of the living areas.

The old cracked and damaged waxed concrete floor has been replaced by a waxed light oak wood floor that catches the omnipresent natural light.

The kitchen was entirely designed and custom-made to fit every angle and to meet very precise storage and use requirements. Its semi-open composition expresses the need for privacy when cooking, required by our client. A custom interior window was installed on a pony wall extending from an existing wall, thus creating a separation between the kitchen and dining room, while letting some light in.

It continues into a sober, convivial eating area. The bar-island with its two high seats becomes a seat with hidden shoe storage on the entrance side.  We chose marble-like matte tiles for the counter and backsplash, and stone-effect tiles for the floor. A sober look, enhanced by a light oak finish for the upper cabinets.

On the opposite side, a grand custom piece occupies the living room wall. The symmetry of its design soothes the unusual shape and proportions of the space. It combines an occasional desk, TV stand, lots of storage and display areas, and forms the focal point of the space.
